I don't think in the medical field we have to worry about DEI and doctors. But when talking about jobs like fireman there is no room for DEI. You either can pass the physical requirements or you can't. If you can't, find another profession.
Same as when I was in the Army. There was a standard for women and standard for men. The women's standard was lower. But my opinion was if a woman could pass the men's standards then let her be a combat arms troop if she so chooses.
I was also in aviation as a crew member. Flying is more of a hand eye co-ordination thing and for helicopters add in the feet. I flew within who were outstanding, avg and **** pilots. I flew with a small sample of women when I was in non combat units. Same thing. Some were avg, some outstanding, and some sucked.
Anyone with avg hand eye skills can learn to fly. What separates the good from the bad is the ability to make decisions in a high stress situation.
There are certain professions where we must not allow watered down standards.
I agree with what you wrote. Where it gets mucked up is the assumption by folks like the OP that any non-white who works in a given profession is a DEI hire. Also, just because an employer (public or private) has DEI embedded in their operation, that does not effectively exclude whites. Lastly, even if it is a DEI hire in xyz profession... as long as it is the private sector, they are free to hire whoever they want and then sink/swim based on that. When I was with the state of Nevada.. there was no official DEI policy but in the past 3 years the nonwhites outnumbered the whites. As to why.. lower wages.
